What Trends is for

Sign off colours
with the market behind you.

How many of last season’s colourways were one of a kind, and how many were one of fifty? Trends puts the whole market’s colour count in front of you before you commit, and in front of your dealers when you ask them to take a colour.

Why colour shows up on the P&L ↓

THINK OF IT AS COLOUR INSURANCE

A colourway is a production run.

You sign the colour off before anyone has bought it. Then dealers and riders judge it.

You can still change it. Every step can go round again.

A typical programme. Dealers pre-order and move the volume, direct brands carry the stock, most do both. The timing varies; the order does not.

01Volume

A colour is stock somebody has to sell.

Every colourway is made in every size. A colour that does not move is the first thing anyone remembers at next year’s range meeting.

02Position

Further out is a bigger bet.

A third of 2026 colourways are black, where colour sets nobody apart. Further out, the colour does more of the work, for you or against you.

03Price

What usually happens when one colour misses.

Same product, same price at launch. One colourway sells out. The other is marked down step by step. A worked example: we count the colours on sale, we do not see sales or prices.

04The sum

Put your own numbers in. One colourway: at . If of them go at , that is about €80,000 given away on one colour, yours or your dealers’. A year of Pro is €9,999, about an eighth of that.

It works the other way too. A subscriber sees a colour gaining share market by market, while there is still time to act on it.

WHAT IS BEHIND EVERY NUMBER

Three servers, counting around the clock.

Nothing here is an opinion. Every number comes from a product that was on sale: read from the brand's own site or the shops that stock it, measured, checked against the brand's own words, compared with the same brands a season earlier, and counted again next quarter.

36,479 colourways measured since 2016. 183 brands counted in 2026. Still counting.

WHAT IS HERE

Start with the count. Everything else follows from it.

The Colour Index and this year's colour are free to read. Then build a concept on them, play with a palette, check the colours you already chose, and see what each part costs.
