KTM Superduke 1290 Custom – Charlies Chop Shop NY

KTM Superduke 1290 Custom – Charlies Chop Shop NY

A bike this loud is always going to polarise opinions. Some will love it, some will hate it, but either way it’s not easy to ignore! Photos never really do justice to how much fluo orange pops in reality and how good it looks. I have used this color in some helmet designs and my buddy Zajcmaster made his KTM EXC in neon as well and the color is mesmerising when you see it in first person.

The stunning Custom Superduke below belongs to Charlie, from Charlies Chop shop out in New York, so without further ado, I will hand you over to him as he wrote me a nice mail earlier with info about himself and this bike.

“My name is Charlie and I own a motorcycle shop in NYC called Charlie’s Chop Shop AKA The Chop Shop NY which specializes in customizing motorcycles as far as custom paint jobs, powder coating and bolt on parts and accessories for about 8 years now.

I started this on my own working day and night out of a small garage and now have 8 employees helping me run the show in our new 6000 square foot warehouse in Astoria Queens NY.

I also own one of the biggest powder coating shops in the tri-state area due to the enormous size of our equipment which can handle anything that is metal up to 20′ in length and 10′ in height for sand blasting and powder coating called Quality Powder Coating NYC.

We specialize in motorcycle powder coating which is my passion and work with all the local dealerships powder coating all their parts for new motorcycles on their showroom floor and also customers used bikes they customize.

I’ve been working on bikes and riding for over 20 years and now living my dream of running a successful shop that builds some of the coolest bikes riding around in NYC. That is a little history behind me and my shops and now let’s talk about the KTM.

After I purchased the bike new from a local KTM dealership I rode it a few times and decided to completely break it down to the bare frame and powder coat every single piece of the bike down to the hardware to exhibit in our booth at the progressive international motorcycle show in NYC so people can see our detailed work. My staff and myself didn’t sleep for a few days working around the clock to complete the build in under a week since it was a last minute decision.

I decided to use 3 powder coating colors on the bike which were Playboy Blue, Neon Orange and Gloss White. I also powder coated all the hardware in matte black for a cleaner look. We also fully ceramic coated the headers and added a custom Termignoni Carbon Fiber exhaust that we modified to the bike. That exhaust had a little mishap while shipping my bike to another state for a show and I have now replaced it with a custom Akrapovic carbon fiber exhaust I have modified to fit and will attach a picture so you can see it.

We also designed a custom paint job for the bike to match the powder coating and printed our own factory decals in neon orange and black to keep her as original as possible logo wise.

I purchased every single piece KTM hard parts sold at the time for the bike and also powder coated or painted the majority of them to match my color scheme.

I think that is pretty much it and it might be a little too much lol but just wanted to put as much out there so you have some information on myself and what we do. This is my passion and once again it’s an honor to be on your site. Thanks for the opportunity and let me know if you need any other info.”

Thank you
Charles Cabrera

I likey very much! In my opinion, you have taken a good looking bike and improved on it by a vast margin. Seeing what custom builders do using their talent and vision is very inspirational for me. Your attention to detail is what impresses me as well. Congratulations on a fine build.
