2014 KTM 250 SX-F DE Photos and first thoughts

First day out on the new 2014 KTM 250 SX-f didn’t really go as planned because my friend who I went riding with overshot a big tabletop pretty bad on my 150SX and went off to spend a few nights in the local hospital so I cut my ride short to go visit him. Luckily he is ok and once his bones heal will be back to 100%. My 150 is pretty beat up and now needs a little love though.

But it’s ok, I have the 2014 250 SX-F for a while. Man this bike is nice. It is a lot mellower than the 350sxf and also feels like a cheater bike after my 150sx. The smoothness of power is deceptive as I was clearing jumps with little to no effort which I had to really nail the corner before on my 150 to clear cleanly. The ergonomics are identical to my bike so I felt right at home straight away. We are always a little limited with where we can put GFX and how many stickers we can use on the production bikes so I modified and added a few more stickers which I had made for the factory race team to liven it up a bit.

What else? Brilliant brakes, super light hydraulic clutch and smooth clean power all the way through with a ridiculously long spread of power aided by the new 5 speed transmission.  If I bought one I think I would switch to a new pipe pretty early to drop the weight a little because being a 4 stroke it does feel heavier than a 2 stroke. This would also make the power a little more agressive I guess although I loved how smooth it felt straight away. It’s way more planted around the corners than my 150 too, the front wheel just tracks like a dream, perhaps due to the improved suspension settings. I didn’t change the bike even a single click yet and it felt great.

The motor is smooth and powerful kicking out a whopping 43 horsepower.

sad to hear about your friend, never good when its a big crash.. thing is the little bore’s they almost entice you to push harder to clear jumps you have to be really on your mental game an they also wear you out trying so hard.

nice review on the 250 also! seems like a great package.. only one i rode was an 07 SXF but it was awesome from my short time on it. would love a new one with electric start!
