Red Bull KTM’s reigning MX1 world champion Tony Cairoli of Italy rounded up his preseason race practice in the final round of the Italian Championships at Gazzane di Presceglie on Sunday by securing the MX1 title on his KTM 350 SX-F.
Tony was also ranked third in the Elite class taken by Steven Frossard but had equal points with second placed Italian countryman David Phillipaerts. KTM’s Italian rider Tony has been using the race series as his pre-world championship warm-up.
He had a quite a good start in the opening heat and managed to get into a good rhythm to put distance between him and Frossard. Her also got away well in the second race of the day but when his wheel slipped in the first corner, he slipped back to fourth place He then managed to close the gap to finish the race in second place.
Tony Cairoli: “The track was very short today and it was also hot and dusty but we had some light rain before the second heat so we had a bit more grip. Now that the series is over I will drive back to Belgium and concentrate on training leading up to the opening GP in Valkenswaard.”
