2 afternoons at X-Bowl arena with some friends and the 2014 KTM 250 SX-F

If I have one gripe about the recent KTM SX’s it is that they come specced with the most rubbish inner tubes I have ever seen. First time out on my new 2012 150sx I got a front puncture after 3 laps. The next time I got a puncture in the back. Not the best way to get you stoked on your new bike.

This time out with a new 2014 250 SX-F on friday I also got a front wheel puncture after 3 laps! The front wheel was pushing like crazy in the corner before but I thought I just hit a loose line and hit the big tabletop anyway. I landed on the gas which saved me because when I stopped to see what was up the front tire was completely flat! 1 hour wasted at the track to find a new tube and change it. Then yesterday again, 3 laps in, back was sliding a little too much in the corner but I hit the big corner jump in 4th gear pinned and when I landed the back was all over the place. Again, lucky I didn’t crash, but the lightweight, thin inner tubes the bikes come with are worse than useless! If you get a new bike, if you plan on hitting any jumps or riding a track with any rocks then don’t even bother riding it without changing to some thicker tubes because they do puncture straight away which is a pain in the ass to fix at the track and also pretty dangerous.

Anyway, this weekend apart from having to fix both front and back punctures I had 2 brilliant rides with Zacher, Moe and Simon. Loads of photos below!

The more I ride the 2014 250 SX-F the more I love it. Without a doubt If I was to buy a new Motocross bike right now it would be the 250 sx-f. If I was after an EXC I think I would get a 250 2 stroke, but for MX the 250F is just brilliant. It’s a little easier to handle than the 350, feels a bit lighter and is still wickedly fast.

I love this rhythm section up the hill at X-Bowl arena, it was so easy on the 250f  compared to my 150. I always found the old SX to need a bit of work to get the suspension dialed in but the new 2014 models have their suspension totally dialed as stock. I still didn’t even adjust a single click anywhere!
