Are you a designer at Kiska? If so I’d love to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind. I’m an Industrial Design student in the U.S. focusing on product design looking to gather as much info as I can about what skills I need and how to develop a strong portfolio. Any insight you could provide would be great.

Yes, I am, but not really an industrial designer. Will try and answer your questions anyway if you like.

Thanks for responding. Is important to have strong drawing ability or is 3D rendering more desired? I’m pretty strong with drawing because of my illustration background but playing catch up when it comes to 3d software. Do Kiska designers mainly have transportation design backgrounds? I notice a lot of design firms list branding as part of their skills set. What should I include in my portfolio to demonstrate ability in that area? Would logo and package design show ability in that area? Is it possible to do an internship at Kiska if you’re foreign? I saw the drawings you posted on here and simkom and I really dig your style. Would you mind checking out some of my stuff sometime? I just started the I.D. program but am planning on starting a blog this summer to post some drawings. Any feedback would be helpful. Sweet site by the way. Thank you again for your time.

Hi Francis, well, you need to have a mix of all skills really, but there are different departments at Kiska, product design as well as transportation design, and communication design etc. Some people focus more on 3d, but all of them have to be good illustrators and conceptual thinkers. Being good at graphic design helps too. Allmost all of the trans designers have trasnport backgrounds, either in bikes or cars. Your best bet for info is to email Kiska at the career link to find out more. they are often looking for interns, and people are from all over the world working here, it’s pretty international: http://kiska.at/#/weare/career/
